PNCG was engaged by a global professional services company (mid market), to implement the leading Human Resource Information System (HRIS), Workday®.
Problem
The client faced a strong challenge to integrate 9 companies that had been acquired over the course of a two year aggressive acquisition period. This left the client with more than ten separate and disparate systems for managing employee information, pay and benefits. Not only did this create operational inefficiency, but it prevented the newly appointed board of directors from gaining transparent insight into the costs and operations of the company as a single globale entity.
Scope
Globally, the need was to provide integrations from Workday to 21 downstream systems that affected 9,500 employees. For the Americas region, for which PNCG was engaged, 9 downstream integrations were required to support 4,500 employees. The project lasted for 18 months and exceeded over $10M in total integration project costs.
PNCG was responsible for:
- The configuration of Workday integration systems
- The architecture of each integration
- The delivery and maintenance of each integration
- Data security for data at rest and in transit
Solution
Utilizing a combination of Microsoft services- primarily BizTalk, Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)- 9 separate downstream integrations were developed. It included a universal error logging system and a proactive notification system which generated pertinent warnings and errors to responsible business partners across the organization. The integrations included Payroll, Finance Systems, Health Benefits Providers, 401k, Learning Management System (LMS) and IT Service Management (ITSM).
Outcome
Following the extensive integration project, the client realized immeasurably greater efficiency in the management and administration of their Human Resources department. By consolidating health and payroll providers, the client was able to save approximately $5M annually on support and licenses. The staff required to support the disparate operations and systems was cut dramatically from over 150 personnel to 20 personnel across a set of teams.
We continue to support and provide maintenance and minor system improvement to this client and have been retained for 3 years.
